What does the scholarship cover?
Recipients of this scholarship are entitled to:
- Tuition fees – as per the tuition fee invoice provided by the university
- A stipend of US$500 per month to cater for living expenses such as food, housing, utilities, local transportation, and medication
- A book allowance of US$500 per year to cover the purchase of books
- An economy fare round-trip air ticket, where applicable
- Travel allowance:
- A one-off payment of US$ 250 at the beginning of the course given to cater for settling-in costs and ground transportation.
- A second one-off payment of US$ 350 to assist with shipping and other terminal expenses.
- Computer allowance: Recipients receive a one-off payment of US$1000 for the purchase of a laptop or computer, and all the required accessories.

Am I Eligible To Apply?
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- Be a female citizen of an African Union Member State
- Be under the age of 35 if intending to pursue a Master’s program
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field at the level of Upper Second Class Honors for a Master’s program
- Have a degree from a reputable university
- Have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement as shown in academic transcripts and academic awards
- Have proof of admission to undertake a full-time Master’s program in a recognized university in any African Union Member State
- Be willing to commit to working in an African Union Member State for at least three years on completion of your studies.
NOTE:
- Applications for the scholarship that do not have an admission letter from a university attached will not be considered.
How Do I Apply – Next Steps
- Interested candidates should complete the Application Form in PDF format as well as the EXCEL Applicants’ Data Sheet, which are available on the Africa Union website as indicated below.
- The formal application should include the following:
- Completed application form
- Recent passport-size photograph
- Summarized CV with names and contacts of two referees
- Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts
- Certified copies of Passport or National Identity Card indicating citizenship
- Copy of admission letter from a reputable African University
- Two (2) Reference Letters with contact addresses
- An essay of not more than 500 words that explains why the candidate has chosen her particular field of study and its importance to Africa’s development
NOTE:
- Note that Electronic Copies of all the above documents should be submitted.
