How many scholarships are given?
- 3500 scholarships are given annually under 23 different schemes available to foreign students from 180 countries.
Am I Eligible to Apply?
- You should never have studied in India, as priority will be given to students who have never studied in India before.
- You must have adequate knowledge of English.
- If you are applying for doctoral/ post-doctoral courses, you should include a synopsis of the proposed area of research.
- If you wish to study performing arts you should, if possible, enclose video/ audio cassettes of your recorded performances.
- You should not be applying for admission to courses in MBBS/MD or Dentistry/Nursing.
- You should have fulfilled the eligibility criteria for the Indian universities/educational institution to which you intend to apply.
- You must have a proper visa.
- You must have sought a full briefing from the Indian Diplomatic Mission in your country about living conditions in India/the details of scholarship/the type and duration of the course to which you are admitted.
- You should have some money with you to meet incidental expenditures on arrival in India.
- You should have all the original documents relating to your qualifications for verification by the respective college/university at the time of admission

- Application is done on the website indicated below. No hard copy of the application form is required at the Mission.
NOTE
- ICCR will not accept applications that are sent to ICCR directly by students or which are sent by local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi.
- Note that acceptance of your application by the University is not a guarantee of admission. A scholarship is awarded only when admission is confirmed by ICCR.
- Students should ensure that they get the correct visa from the Indian Embassy/High Commission. Government of India guidelines stipulate that if a scholar arrives without a proper visa and his/her actual admission at the University/Institute does not materialize, he/she will be deported to his/her country.
- Scholars should inform the Indian Embassy/High Commission of their travel schedule well in advance so that ICCR arrange to receive them when they arrive.
