- From the late 1950s to the present day, over 21,500 foreign nationals have completed their studies at Czech universities with a scholarship from the Government of the Czech Republic.

What does the scholarship cover?
- The scholarship covers necessary costs related to stay and study in the CR. The scholarship amount is regularly amended. Currently, the amount paid to students taking a Bachelor’s, Master’s or follow-up Master’s study programme stands at CZK 14,000 per month, whereas the amount paid to students of a Doctoral study programme stands at CZK 15,000 per month.
- The scholarship figure includes an amount designated for the payment of food, accommodation, and public transport costs.
- Travel expenses for travelling to the Czech Republic and back to the student’s homeland are paid by the party that has nominated the student to study in the CR, or by the foreign national at his/her own cost.

- Government scholarships of this category are awarded to graduates from upper secondary schools, or Bachelor’s/Master’s degree courses, as applicable, who can enroll only in study programs in which instruction is given in the Czech language.Depending on the subject area, applicants are typically required to sit entrance examinations at the higher education institution concerned. Successful passing of entrance examinations is a precondition for the scholarship award.

- A limited number of scholarships is also offered to students from developing countries who file their applications with the respective National UNESCO Commissions.
- Each applicant must fill an electronic application form available at http://registr.dzs.cz/registr.nsf or http://registr.dzs.cz/registr.nsf/unesco.
- For contact information on individual local offices seehttp://www.unesco.org/ (and search under the heading Communities, National Commissions).
- The form must be submitted at the latest by 30 September of the year before the given academic year (i.e. the calendar year preceding the academic year for which scholarships are offered).
- If the form is accepted, selected applicants will be asked to attend an interview at the Czech Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
- Successful applicants will be asked to submit complete documentation by a given deadline determined by the local Czech embassy.
- Prospective applicants are advised to address their inquiries concerning, among others, their eligibility and the closing date for applications to the Czech Embassiesin their countries.
